After searching over the summer for a Wii console our name eventually appeared at the top of the list at Woolworths. Having looked far and wide without success. That included a trip to the beautiful channel island of Guernsey where they were sold out. High demand for the Wii has seen consoles disappearing from shelves and warehouses all over the country.
Having only had experience of a PlayStation 2 in our house, I certainly wouldn't call myself a gamer by any stretch of the imagination.
Sitting slouched with a PS2 controller has never really appealed to me.
The Nintendo Wii totally changes gaming by getting you moving, and therefore a little fitter into the bargain You will be dancing around in front of the TV! The Wii remote which controls the game without getting technical can sense movement in all directions.
Simply move the controller in the direction you want. Wii sports is the game bundled with the console.
In game play terms this translates to holding the Wii remote like a bat when playing baseball, or a bowling ball when playing ten pin bowling. The Wii Sports game supplied has lots of great game play to get you started. There is Tennis, Baseball, Boxing and Golf which are all worth a go.
The Wii has the fun factor which no other game console has grasped as well as Nintendo. You may have read reviews already, perhaps even had a quick game at a friends house. However there's a lot more fascinating features which we'll explore below.
I have been amazed at how much we have actually used this console. Great for kids of all ages in fact, it's about the only console you would play with adult friends. For adults, best game play is achieved after a couple of glasses of wine!
Get your hands on an inexpensive SD memory card, and transfer your latest photos from your PC onto the SD card and pop it into the front of the Wii.
From the Wii menu you can view these pics as a slideshow using the Wii remote to pause or indeed flick through the show faster. There are lots of options on the slideshow including background music. Drop music tracks onto the SD card and play it as your own background music on the slide show.
It's ideal for showing friends your holiday pics on the TV. Rotate and even transform
pictures into jigsaw games, great for kids.
If you already have a wireless network, the Wii can easily connect in, giving you
the ability to view Wii internet channels and download updates.
To browse the full internet you need to download a browser, so go to the Wii shopping channel and download the Opera browser for a small charge.
Once you have this it's good for browsing the weather via the Met Office or doing a Google search on the TV for everyone to see.
How do you type without a keyboard? Ok fair point, simply point the Wii remote at the Keyboard on the screen and select the letters. It takes a little getting used to though.
Make that CD slot flash blue!
When a message is received from another Wii console, the CD slot flashes bright blue until the message is read. It looks pretty smart.
All clever stuff, but no way essential to have it connected to a wireless network.
The unique game play really gets you moving, coupled with nice features like building and naming your own Mii characters for use in Wii Sports.
Excellent photo slide show ability and the overriding factor that the whole family will enjoy this immensely.
For more real people reviews, have a look on Amazon. No matter where you end up buying the Nintendo Wii or any gadget, it's worth checking customer reviews on Amazon.
So if you are lucky enough for Santa to bring one of these I can guarantee you will have Fun fun fun!
Unless of course you break the TV should the Wii remote slip from your grasp during frantic game play! Best use the wrist strap on the Wii remote to be on the safe side. Enjoy!

I recently bought myself a Nintendo DS Lite because I really wanted to try out the brain training game. These neat little consoles retail around £99 and are well worth every pound.
You will easily get a few hours of game play out of the DS Lite battery, without the need to top up the charge.
The console has a GBA cartridge bay so you can still play your old Game Boy Advance games on one of the screens. Included is a rechargeable battery and AC charger, stylus (and spare) and a paper instruction booklet.
The game card slots in easily to the back of the console and game play is automatically stored onto the game card. No need to buy an extra memory card.
Ease of Use
The console is easy to use, with 2 very bright LCD screens. Screen protectors are an extra that’s worth buying when younger children use the DS Lite – this will save the screen getting scratched. It’s worth buying genuine Nintendo protectors as they are easy to fit, and more importantly don’t hinder use of the stylus unlike unbranded protectors.
If you've never considered the DS before then you really are missing out; with a

Of course the touch screen and microphone add a new dimension to your games. Some games make use of the built in microphone to talk or blow into. This interactive game play can be found in many games like including Shrek the Third where you blow into the microphone to simulate the wind blowing Artie across the water. Nice Touch!
A terrific feature of the DS allows gamers to play with others who don't have a certain

The stereo speakers sound good for the game music, and the top screen can be angled for comfort. The clamshell design protects the screens and keeps the device compact. The looks are striking with a lovely glossy exterior. The stylus nests firmly in the DS and doesn't fall out.
Overall the console is superb; so easy to pick up and just play anywhere you want, versatile and unique; the innovation of the DS has made a global impact on fans and developers all around world, gaming may never be the same again.
I wouldn’t begin to call myself a gamer but I love this console. It is so much fun to play and the games are phenomenally addictive. Once again Enjoy!
